Thomas McCarthy, born at Cappoquin, Co. Waterford in 1954. Educated at University College Cork. His collections include The Sorrow Garden (1981), The Lost Province (1996), Merchant Prince (2005) and Pandemonium (Carcanet, 2016). He has won the Patrick Kavanagh Award, Alice Hunt Bartlett Prize and O'Shaughnessy Award for Poetry. He retired from Cork City Libraries in 2014 to write full-time. He is a member of Aosdána.
